While we love to do Resurrection Eggs, the pieces are just too small for my 1yr. old. I wanted something that was more on his level so I gathered some simple supplies and made him his own Easter Story Bin.

Baby Easter Story Bin

Baby Easter Story Bin Supplies:

  • Silk palm leaf (or another large silk leaf)
  • heart stress ball
  • globe stress ball
  • foam cross
  • purple fabric
  • donkey

Basically I went around my house (and borrowed the donkey ;) ) and found items that I thought represented the Easter story and were safe. You might notice that my picture does not have a palm leaf. That item went MIA and was later found “planted” outside in my front garden. ;) I thought about adding a rock but my little guy has quite an arm already ;) I’m sure there are many  items you could add. Just walk around your house and see what you already have on hand.

Joy Essential Oil

I decided to add a drop of Joy essential oil onto the purple cloth since we are so joyful and grateful for what Jesus did for us on the cross.

How to Use the Easter Story Bin

Easter Story Bin

First I let him use it how he wanted to! The first thing he went for was the squishy earth ball (I found the earth and the heart stress ball at our local Walgreens.) When he picked up items I would name them:  “That’s the earth.  Jesus loves everyone on earth.”  “What does a donkey say?  Heehaw, Heehaw” (no, I’m not going to make that into a song ;) )

After awhile we played toss with the heart and the earth. Then he decided to place the purple cloth over the ball and hide it (he is totally into peek-a-boo right now.) So we played peek-a-boo with the items in the tray.

I don’t expect my 1 year old to understand the Easter story at all, but I do believe that I can start speaking truth to him. So I used phrases such as “Jesus loves you,” “Jesus loves the whole world,” “Jesus is king.”

I enjoyed this bin just as much as my son because it helped me to slow down and just play with my son and speak truth into his spirit.
