Welcome 2014! I have to admit that I haven’t had enough time yet to fully think about goal-setting. December wears me out with multiple birthdays, special activities and Christmas. I need the quietness of January to be able to process things. So it surprised me that I already knew something that I wanted to implement on January 1st! I felt impressed to start a quote/scripture journal and to have my older children join me in this endeavor.
Starting a Quote Journal
Many times while reading online, I come across great quotes. I often think about sharing them with my older children (ages 15, 14, and 12) but then forget. So this year we’re going to start a new habit. I purchased nice journals and a set of Sakura pens for each child (and myself ). At least once a week I will add a new quote or scripture on our dry erase board for my older children to copy into their journals. This is not copy work per se. They can copy the quote artistically, just write it, or use a printable to color and adhere into their book. Since the dry erase board is in the kitchen, we’ll probably end up discussing the quote over dinner so Dad can join in the conversation. I’ve been collecting quotes to share and the quote for this week is :
“Champions don’t do extraordinary things. They do ordinary things habitually that others give up on or just neglect to do. ” ~ Sandi Krakowski
This quote struck a chord with me when I read it in my Facebook stream last month. I have struggled with establishing good routines and sticking with certain things (such as exercising) this past year. Since I feel like my one word is “intentional” this quote reminds me that I need to try to intentionally develop some good habits this year.
Free Quote Printables
My 15 year old daughter is partnering with me by helping me create a set of printable quote coloring pages for teens. She’s doing all the drawings! These quote printables will fit in a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 binder. There is something relaxing about coloring– even for adults! I found the cutest mini 3-hole punch for half-size pages. I printed the page out and added it to my daily binder. We plan on offering one quote printable a month.
