Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils
Well, I guess it’s that time of the year again! Spring cleaning time! When I was a child I remember washing walls, taking down curtains to wash, and sorting through seasonal clothes. I’ll admit that I don’t go to that much effort in my spring cleaning endeavors.
But I do like to have safe cleaners that I can feel comfortable letting my children use around the house. I have been making my own cleaners with vinegar, baking soda, and Thieves cleaner (which I love!) for several years now.
Recently my friend Kara and I hosted a Spring Cleaning Make and Take class using homemade cleaners made from essential oils. I love that essential oils can replace so many other products in my household! At this class we had both moms and teens participate. I love that my teen is learning healthier options for cleaners rather than the harsh chemical – laden cleaners that are promoted on t.v. We made:
Thieves all-purpose spray
Just add a capful of Thieves All Purpose cleaner in a bottle with 2-3 cups of water.
Thieves toilet bowl cleaner
*Add 1 cup of baking soda into a large, deep bowl
*Slowly add ¼ cup of vinegar. It will foam up as it reacts. This is a harmless event.
*Add 1 cup of filtered water.
*Add ½ capful of Thieves Household Cleaner
*Mix VERY well.
*Funnel into a container.
To use, squirt under and around the rim of the commode. Allow the solution to work for 5-10 minutes. Scrub with a toilet brush. Flush.

Thieves Cleaner and Thieves Mirror & Glass Cleaner
Note: Contents will separate. Shake before use.
Thieves window and glass cleaner
*Fill spray bottle with 2 ½ cups of filtered water (right to where the bottle starts to straighten)
*Add 5 drops of Lemon oil
*Add 1 teaspoon of white vinegar
*Shake gently
*Label “Thieves Mirror/Glass Cleaner”

How My Kids Use Young Living Packaging
Since I’m sharing about Young Living, I thought I’d showcase some of the ways my kids like to use the packaging. My oils are carefully mailed in cardboard tubes. These tubes are usually confiscated right away after my oils are removed. My kids like to use these sturdy cardboard tube as:
- drum sticks
- pretend play mail delivery props
- telescopes
- LEGO mini-figure tunnels
- free art sculpture material
- frugal iPod speakers
Who knew they could be so entertained with such simple, free items!
